Iria Prieto’s work explores the uncertainty of reality from introspection and vital force. Her paintings develop through layering, removing, marking and utilizing the materiality of the pictorial medium. The artist’s goal is to allow, as much as possible, the human instinct to carry out a finished piece.

Iria was born in Spain and raised in Puerto Rico. From an early age she has been exposed to a wide array of art forms which inform her current body of work.

She holds a BFA in painting from Maryland Institute College of Art. Iria also studied in Parsons New School for Design in Paris, Studio Art International Center in Florence and EICAR International Film and Television School in Paris. Iria has exhibited in New York, Barcelona, Florence, Paris, Baltimore and San Juan among others.

Currently, Iria Prieto's studio is in Brooklyn, NY.
